A tour of a special kind. Maya in search of her roots.

Dear Lonesome Traveler Team, advanced I would like to thank you very much for have given me the best support to travel my native country for the first time in my life! Now that I am back I would love to share my intention and my experiences:
My parents adopted me from Chittagong and so I grew up in Germany. The time had come to explore my origin. I was searching for someone who is most familiar to Bangladesh and provide me with the best information for the trip of my life. I had gladly been guided by my dad and my sister. We picked out some destinations such as Rangamati, Cox’s Bazar and the visit of Chittagong to spend some time at the orphanage – the place where I have lived the first weeks of my life.

This round trip had been absolutely adventurous! It was filled with lots of joy, beautiful landscapes, a great Kaptai Lake boat tour, amazing colors, nice and curious Bengali people and the fact to never have been felt unsafe or not being welcomed. Though I experienced so much positive things I have to admit I was deeply touched by the poverty and everything that comes with this. Not always easy to take but Bangladesh is for sure worth a trip!

And it will not have been the last time for me to come and see more! I warmly recommend you to anybody who will take the chance to meet Bangladesh and its lovely people. Don Nobad!

Maya (in March, 2012)
