Entry requirements

Prerequisite for the entry (airway/land route) to Bangladesh is a visa (categories: tourists, business travelers, long-term stay, work stay). You can get the tourist visa in two different ways: firstly by the Embassy of Bangladesh in your home country, on the other hand, directly after landing in Dhaka airport (airport visa or Visa on Arrival). When entering Bangladesh by air and later leaving the country by road to India (and vice versa), a so-called Route Changes Permission is required by the Immigration Office.), a so-called Route Changes Permission is required by the Immigration Office.
Due to COVID-19, however, special regulations currently apply, as follows:

Corona-bylaws

First of all: You can find current figures and statistics in the weekly WHO assessments.
EU citizens are allowed to enter, but proof of a negative COVID-19 test (English-language certificate, not older than 72 hours) is required, which must also be presented (does not apply to children under 10 years of age). This also applies when leaving the country, the tests must be carried out by a testing facility approved in Bangladesh. Until further notice, the VOA (Visa on Arrival, airport visa) is suspended, the visa must be applied for at the embassy. Exceptions to this rule apply to business travelers and investors. Pick-up is not possible within the airport building (only passengers are allowed to enter the airport).

Airport visa (Visa on Arrival) – COVID-19 conditionally suspended!

Please note the previous section! In normal times the following applies: In addition to EU nationals, this applies to nationals of the following countries: Australia, Bahrain, Canada, China, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Qatar, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, UAE, USA and UK. The airport visa costs 51.00 dollars, it entitles to a maximum stay of 30 days with a one-time entry and exit. It is handed over directly to the airport’s arrival hall in Dhaka. For more information about the procedure, please visit our page FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions.

Tourist visa issued by the embassy

The application for a tourist visa is made directly at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in your home country. This visa entitles the holder to a maximum stay of 30 days with a single entry and exit (without any alternative). In the normal case, there are no problems with the issue, if you have a travel plan and hotel bookings or an invitation. If your travel plan – apart from the first nights in Dhaka – is not yet fixed, then the application must necessarily enclose a accompanying letter from which this appears, otherwise there will be inquiries. You can find further information about the application on the websites of the embassy of Bangladesh, which is responsible for you.
