Bangladesh in pictures – Mahasthangarh (Pundranagar)

The earliest evidence of urbanization in ancient Bengal can be found here. Several researchers worked in the ruins or released them in the first place, but it was a British Indologist – Sir Alexander Cunningham – who made the most important discovery in the then dense jungle in 1879: Mahasthangarh is Pundranagar (the city of the Pundra). Hundreds of building remains are scattered throughout the area and testify that Mahasthangarh, even on today’s scale, was a true metropolis…
